The Architecture of Memory
My practice is a visceral exploration of the 'energetic body,' rooted in the vibrant heritage of my Sri Lankan lineage and the structural complexities of contemporary life. Today, I translate the traditions of Batik onto canvas, evolving flat planes into three-dimensional, 'tectonic' surfaces.
I utilize a high-chroma palette and aggressive impasto techniques to externalize the internal landscape. By embedding reclaimed lace and hand-distressed fabrics—silks, cottons, and fibers—directly into the paint, I create a 'structural skin' that serves as a metaphor for the layers of memory and identity we inhabit. Bold color is not merely decorative; it is a survival mechanism—a way to map out the frequency of the human spirit.
I had wonderful experience buying a STUNNING piece from chaya. she was super easy to communicate with and answered all my questions.
